A total of 41 cases of sexual and gender-based violence were reported in all four refugee camps scattered in Ghana in 2016, a figure being the highest recorded so far, indicating an increase in such violence. These camps are the Fetentaa, Egyeikrom, Krishna and Ampain, the Ghana Refugees Board (GRB) has announced. The Board has noted that a total of 27 of the cases reported involved adult victims while 14 of the victims were less than 18 years, comprising 35 females and six males.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Ghana Refugee Board, as part of preparations towards World Refugee Day, organized a workshop for representatives of some media houses in Accra on June 13, 2016. The theme of the one-day workshop was Reporting Refugee Issues and was aimed at improving media training on how to better report issues concerning refugees, and to give participants an understanding of the role of the government, UNHCR, Civil Society and other partners in the management of refugees.
